Five workers died as an explosion shook a rocket and explosive material factory of the Machinery and Chemical Industry (MKE) on Saturday morning in Turkey’s capital city Ankara.
The incident occurred at approximately 08:40 local time, in the dynamite mixer workshop while workers were in the process of preparing for production. Several of the injured workers, transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals, are reported to be in critical condition.
The Turkish Defence Ministry confirmed the news, announcing that five workers had lost their lives in the incident. In response, both judicial and administrative investigations have been initiated to determine the cause of the explosion.
The Deputy Defence Minister Alpaslan Kavaklıoğlu stated that the explosion appeared to have been sudden and unexpected, with no discernible signs of any abnormalities leading up to the event.
