İbrahim Binici, a former legislator of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) from the southeastern province of Urfa, was taken detained at his home, and late on Saturday he was committed for sentence.
Binici’s detention came further to the Turkish court of appeal in December 2022 confirming his prison sentence of one year and eight months for making terrorist propaganda in a speech in 2013.
Binici was released from prison in June 2021 after a nine-month jail term in relation to what is popularly known as the Kobane trial brought against 108 HDP members for calling people to protest against the siege by the Islamic state of the town of Kobane in northeastern Syrian in 2014.
The prosecution accused the HDP members of initiating protests that took place in Turkey’s largest cities and cities with a Kurdish majority, resulting in 46 deaths on 6-7 October 2014.
