The start date for the trial of the defendants accused of involvement in the Istiklal Street bombing attack that took place on 13 November 2022 killing six and injuring 99, has been announced as 9 May.
The 36 defendants, including Ahlam Albashir, are facing charges of disrupting the unity of the state and the integrity of the country, establishing or leading an armed terrorist organization, premeditated murder by bombing, attempted murder by bombing, and other related charges.
The first session of the trial will run over three days on 9, 10 and 11 May at Istanbul High Criminal Court No.13. Albashir, who was identified as the suspected perpetrator of the attack, was arrested in Küçükçekmece along with 51 others. She has claimed that she thought the package she left contained drugs, and did not know there was a bomb in it.
Meanwhile, details and allegations relating to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) mentioned by Albashir in her statement to the prosecution were omitted from the 154-page indictment.
