Muhammad Musa, Secretary-General of the Kurdish Left Party in Syria, welcomed the belated UN report revealing Turkish operations that could constitute war crimes, including targeted attacks on civilians.
“Civilians have also been killed in targeted airstrikes that fit a pattern of Turkish drone attacks. Such attacks may amount to war crimes,” the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria said in its latest report.
Speaking to ANHA on Wednesday, Musa expressed optimism that stakeholders would assess the situation through a humanitarian lens. “Our expectations from international forces are humanitarian, yet politics often diverges from this,” he stated, noting the influence of self-interests.
Musa pointed to Turkey’s impunity, citing disregard for humanitarian concerns. Urging global powers to prioritise humanitarian considerations over political interests, he criticised Turkey’s actions against Syrian civilians and infrastructure.
The report, submitted to the Human Rights Council, prompts Musa’s hope for an objective review. He acknowledged the sway of global powers but urged adherence to humanitarian principles. Musa condemned Turkey’s destabilising efforts in the region, emphasising its impact on civilians’ welfare.
