The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested an Islamic State (ISIS) militant in the town of al-Busayrah, near Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria in a security operation conducted with air support from the US-led Global Coalition to defeat ISIS, according to a statement released by the SDF Media Center on Wednesday.
The SDF arrested the militant after besieging the place where he was hiding and seized technical equipment and documents that proved his involvement in terrorist activities.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to track down the remnants of ISIS and degrade their terrorist acts, our SDF special units conducted, on May 2nd, a security operation with the support of our international coalition partners,” said the SDF Media Center. “The operation targeted a member of an ISIS terrorist cell in the town of Al-Busaira, the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor,” they added.
“Our forces, in conjunction with the international coalition forces, will continue conducting security operations against ISIS, thwarting their plans, and degrading their threat to establish and maintain stability and security in NE Syria,” the statement concluded.
This arrest comes after the US-led Coalition announced on Tuesday that an SDF-led operation in Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria, had resulted in the capture of two smuggling operatives of ISIS on 30 April, who were known for smuggling people and weapons in and out of al-Hol camp.
