Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Washington representative Sinem Muhammad called on Sunday for an international fact-finding committee to be sent to Afrin, northwest Syria, to investigate crimes committed by the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), particularly the murder of four civilian Kurds celebrating the Kurdish new year, Newroz, in Jindires, west of Afrin.
Muhammad stressed that human rights violations committed in Afrin are met with international silence, and it is time for the UN to discuss events such as robbing, demographic change, and the looting of archaeological sites.
The SDC representative highlighted how Turkish-backed factions do not contribute to the region’s stability and how the factions impact the safety and peace in the region.
Muhammad thanked the US for supporting to their forces in northeast Syria and the people of the entire region in maintaining security in the fight against terrorism. She also stressed the importance of the US presence in the region, as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) work on the ground, citing dangers that the region faces, with more than 12,000 ISIS militants held in prisons, and more than 50,000 family members in al-Hol Camp.
The SDC is the political wing of the SDF and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was founded in 2015 and includes all the communities of North and East Syria.
