Narges Hashemi and Idris Hashemi, Kurdish political refugees from Sarpol-e Zahab in Iran’s Kermanshah Province, are at grave risk of being deported from Sweden back to Iran following the rejection of their asylum requests by the Swedish Immigration Department.
Having fled to Sweden in 2015 due to persecution for their cultural and political activities in Iran, their deportation could result in severe punishment by Iranian authorities. The siblings’ engagement in the Jin, Jiyan, Azadî (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement in Sweden underscores their continued activism and the potential dangers they face if returned to Iran.
The Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights has expressed profound concern over their fate, highlighting the risk of torture and inhumane treatment by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Hengaw has urgently appealed to international human rights organisations and refugee protection agencies to intervene and prevent the extradition of Narges and Idris Hashemi, emphasising the critical need for their protection under international law.
