The second consultative meeting on Syria was held in the Swedish capital Stockholm over the weekend with the participation of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) officials and other Syrian opposition groups, political figures, and representatives of the state departments of the United States and United Kingdom.
The official website of SDC stated that the consultative meetings are in preparation for a “Conference of Democratic Powers and Figures.”
According to the official website of the Syrian Democratic Council, the aim of this particular meeting was to discuss a political vision that achieves the best and broadest representation of the Syrian opposition.
A final statement was issued at the meeting in which US, British and Swiss state department representatives joined, as well as 39 representatives and delegates of the Syrian opposition groups.
The final statement said that among the major issues discussed was the ‘decentralisation’ of the Syrian administration as a starting point for a ‘Democratic National Framework’ based on equal citizenship that ensured the rights of all elements of the society.
