A sit-in protest against Turkey’s military operations in Iraqi Kurdistan continues in front of the Council of Europe building in Strasbourg, France.
Fifteen institutions, led by the European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E) and the European Kurdish Women’s Movement (TJK-E), have participated in the protest for the last three weeks, under the slogan “Everywhere is Avashin, Zap and Metina and we are against the invasion and genocidal attacks”
Panels were organised within the scope of the protests this week. Members discussed the Dersim massacre and Turkey’s assimilationist politics. A group of activists handed over files containing information on the isolation of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party leader Abdullah Öcalan, hunger strikes in prisons and Turkey’s ongoing attacks to the permanent representatives of Russia, the Netherlands and the UK. The protest, which started on 12 May, will continue until 4 June.
