The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has announced its judgment on the former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş.
The court concluded that Demirtaş who has been in pre-trial detention for over four years has been kept in prison for political reasons.
The government in Turkey rejected the ECHR decision and Demirtaş is still being held in Edirne F-type prison.
Selahattin Demirtaş’s mother Sadiye Demirtaş was a guest on the journalist Erdal Er’s YouTube channel and spoke about what she and the Demirtaş family have experienced since her son’s imprisonment.
“We are having really hard days, but not only me, all the political prisoners families are living this,” says Sadiye Demirtaş who has been suffering with serious health issues since her son’s imprisonment.
“My blood pressure rises when I watch false news on TV, they are liars!” she says.
After the decision of ECHR, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, responded to the decision by saying :”We will never release such a terrorist from prison.”
Sadiye Demirtaş criticized Erdoğan’s words:
“If my son is a terrorist, why would he have been a candidate for presidency? The entire world knows that my son is not a terrorist, I am behind my son, he is not a terrorist” says her.
