As threats continue to be made against the existence of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES), also known as Rojava, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander Mazloum Abdi issued a statement, calling on the Syrian government to act responsibly.
In an interview with ANHA, Abdi said: “If they act in favour of Syria’s future, they would not block the solution in Syria. The Syrian government and also other governments know our stance since the beginning of the crisis in 2011”.
Abdi stated that the nationalist policies of the Syrian government persist and their mindset also has not changed. He added that the SDF had protected the borders of Turkey-Syria and Iraq-Syria since 2012 and they were in favour of the unity of Syria within that context.
The SDF and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria had never been a part of the crisis in Syria. He noted that the attacks that had taken place had been carried out against them and the SDF had defended their land against the attacks.
He reiterated the SDF’s stance: “We always keep negotiations open with the Syrian regime to ensure the security of the region. We still have relations with the Syrian regime. We continue to state that meetings should take place to solve security problems. However, the attitude of the Syrian regime does not support a solution for the region. In our negotriations, the Syrian regime blocks dialogue that we are seeking to encourage to provide a solution to the crisis”.
Abdi emphasised that “if a solution is found, it should be a political solution. A solution without the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria is not possible. The reconstruction project of Syria is not possible without us”.
