The KCK’s Executive Council member Sabri Ok spoke to Stêrk TV regarding the ongoing air-and-ground campaign launched by the Turkish armed forces in Iraqi Kurdistan.
“Since 1983, there have been tens of attacks in Bashur Kurdistan (South Kurdistan) and tens of times, these attacks were overcome. The aim of the attacks is to divide the Bashur (South) from the Bakur (North) Kurdistan. Attempting to destroy the free regions of the Medya Defence Zone, they try to achieve their goals”, Ok said.
Defining the strategy of the Turkish state since 2014 as a “destruction plan”, Ok stated that Western states have provided support to Turkey to carry out this plan.
“From whom does the Turkish state get its power? How does it organise so many attacks against us? Of course, there is an international dimension of all of this. For example, Britain especially plays an important role in this regard. They [i.e., Britain] either explicitly approve the actions of the Turkish state or show their consent by remaning silent”, he said.
The KCK executive appealed to Western public opinion to raise its voice against those states who take part in these ‘crimes’ against the Kurds. “Your states lie: they construct their lies based on their benefits. They close their eyes to the Kurdish genocide and sacrifice the Kurds over their joint benefits. See these facts”, he appealed.
Ok also shared his evaluations about the repression of the Kurds and the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey. He said: “The Kobani trial is a reflection of a political attitude. This is not a legal issue: the international public does not believe that either. They see the HDP as a threat to their power, because the dynamism and the will of the HDP is a danger for them. That is why they attack the HDP”.
Ok called upon the international community to take steps against the rising fascism in Turkey: “Societies should not be intimidated. This barbarism falls upon us. Nobody should accept an organisational order. This fascism is a threat to everyone. And it is the guerrilla and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) which gives the necessary response to fascism. Everybody can do something within the limits of their conditions”.
