The Turkish state bombed the village of Memitê using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) on 22 January, injuring several civilians, according to a report by Hawar News.
A few hours later, the Turkish state and Turkish-backed mercenaries attacked Ain Issa (Ayn İsa). However, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) repelled the attack.
In addition, ignoring the agreements signed by Russia and the United States, Turkey has continued to attack civil settlements in North East Syria.
Russia should play its role
Euphrates Region Executive Council co-chair Mihemed Şahîn shared his thoughts on the agreements and the lack of action from the guarantors. “Since the ceasefire, the Turkish state and its mercenaries have bombed several civil settlements before the eyes of guarantor states Russia and the US. Russia did not fulfil its requirements as a guarantor state. Russia and the US should play their part and oppose the assaults of Turkey and its mercenaries”.
Şahin noted that while the Autonomous Administration and the SDF were adhering to the agreement, the Turkish state and its mercenaries violated the agreement. “Russia and the Damascus government have several military points, air space and air defence systems in the region. Despite this fact, they keep silent and tolerate the assaults of the Turkish state”.
Negotiations remain inconclusive
Noting that the Euphrates Region Executive Council, SDF commanders and the Military Council met Russian army officials several times, Şahin said the negotiations remained inconclusive, adding, “For that reason no one has any confidence in the US and Russia as guarantor states. Russia’s existence in Euphrates and other regions is against the agreements, and the invading Turkish state and its mercenaries violated all agreements”.
Co-chair Şahin lastly called on international public opinion and all democratic parties to halt the crimes comitted by Turkey and its mercenaries.
