The visit by Syria’s Opposition Front chair Nasir El Hariri to Iraqi Kurdistan has come under increasing criticism from various quarters. The Democratic Union Party’s (PYD’s) Euphrates Executive Board member Ehmed Şêxo has stated that Hariri’s visit was aimed at ending the negotiations between Kurds and aimed at damaging the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES, also known as Rojava), Hawar News Agency reported.
‘The so-called opposition waged war against the Kurds, above all else’
Noting that Hariri’s visit provoked all Kurds, Şêxo said: “The Rojava Kurdistan Revolution has revealed several conspiracies in past ten years. We see its effect in the streets. However, the so-called opposition and the Damascus government does not accept the struggle of the Kurds. They discriminate against Kurds. The so-called opposition waged war against the Kurds, above all else. They participated in the siege of Kobani. They aimed to remove Kurds. But now they want to celebrate the Newroz Festival. Those are the ones who occupied Afrin (Efrin). How can we celebrate Newroz together with them?”
‘Hariri did not refer to 350,000 people who were displaced due to the occupation’
Referring to Hariri’s claim that they liberated the region, Şexo said: “Hariri did not refer to 350,000 people who were displaced due to the occupation of Tel Abyad (Gire Spi), Ras-al-ayn (Serekaniye) and Afrin. He also did not put the crime of changing the demographic structure of the region on the agenda as well”.
There were many reasons behind Hariri’s visit, Şêxo noted: “They try to harm the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF’s) efforts to acheive the national unity of Kurds. It is obvious that Turkey sent Hariri to Iraqi Kurdistan. All Kurds know that fact. Hariri cannot take any steps without the approval of Turkey”. Şexo stated that Turkey also aimed to harm AANES by using certain Kurds.
