“Purple Trucks” filled with aid collected by the Free Women’s Movement (TJA), Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) members have set off for the earthquake-affected regions of Turkey. The aid parcels were prepared as part of the 8 March International Working Women’s Day events. Additionally, solidarity cards were sent to women in detention.
In Istanbul, the TJA, HDK, and HDP Women’s Assembly prepared aid parcels for earthquake victims at the HDP Sultangazi District Office. The parcels will be sent to the earthquake zone on Sunday 5 March. The women also stated that they will go en masse to the earthquake zone on 7 March as part of their solidarity efforts.
In Antalya, the Women’s Platform kicked off the activities with a press statement, calling for solidarity with earthquake-stricken women and children. The women also sent solidarity cards to imprisoned women.
Elsewhere, the TJA and HDP Adana Women’s Assembly, and Adana Women’s Platform also sent solidarity cards to imprisoned women. Meanwhile, in Şırnak (Şirnex), the 8 March activities launched by the TJA and HDP Women’s Assembly continued in Botan. Women in Şirnex city centre and districts of Cizre (Cizîr), Silopi (Silopiya), İdil (Hezex), Uludere (Qilêban), and Beytüşşebap (Elkê) also sent solidarity cards to imprisoned women.
In Cizre, The Confederation of Public Laborer’s Unions’ (KESK) Women’s Assembly initiated activities in solidarity with earthquake victims. A “Purple Truck” consisting of basic necessities collected for earthquake-stricken women set off for Adıyaman (Semsûr).
