Kurdistan Patriotic Union (PUK) President Bafel Jalal Talabani called for “the unification of ranks” among Kurds in order to achieve national unity, echoing the aspirations of his father Jalal Talabani, in a message sent to the Lausanne Workshop organised by the Rojava Strategic Research Centre in Haseke (Hesekê).
Emphasising the significance of ongoing efforts for Kurdish national unity, Talabani praised efforts to highlight anti-Kurdish aspects of international treaties, and commended the dedicated work of the authorised working group and participants. Kurds have faced genocide and other consequences in the wake of several treaties, most significantly the Treaty of Lausanne, considered to be Turkey’s founding document, that were signed at the expense of Kurdish rights, culture, and territory, Talabani said.
Kurds have fought to preserve their rights and homeland, and attempts to invade Kurdistan and eradicate its history have been and will be met with unwavering resistance, he continued.
The ultimate goal for proponents of Kurdish national unity is to secure a free and dignified life on their land, the PUK president said.
