President Bafel Jalal Talabani of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) called for unity and cooperation on Thursday as he commemorated the 48th anniversary of the PUK’s founding and the 47th anniversary of the events which ultimately led to the start of the Kurdish rebellion.
“We must put the disagreements behind us, work together to build a more secure future and uphold the standard of living we promised to our people,” said Talabani in his statement.
In his message, the president extended his “heartfelt congratulations to the beloved Kurdish people, the proud relatives of the martyrs”. He paid tribute to President Mam Jalal, the PUK’s founding members, and the driving forces of the revolution, acknowledging their dedication and sacrifices.
Emphasising the party’s belief in collaboration and political advancement, he expressed the need to overcome challenges and continue working alongside partners in Iraq.
Highlighting the PUK’s longstanding commitment to solidarity and cooperation, he emphasised the party’s resolve to uphold legal rights and act as genuine delegates of the Kurdistan Region in Baghdad.
The president concluded his statement with a pledge to the Kurdish people, the families of the martyrs and dedicated PUK members, assuring them that the party’s sacred path will be preserved and its future protected.
