Ten protesters who were briefly detained in Ankara on Tuesday for demonstrating against a discrepancy between original polling station reports and data of the Supreme Electoral Board (YSK) were released on the same night after providing statements under custory.
The protesters accused the YSK of unlawful actions and undermining the people’s will. İlay Eroğlu delivered a statement in front of the YSK, highlighting the inconsistency between wet-signed minutes and reported vote counts. Eroğlu accused the YSK of blatant lawlessness and attempting to usurp the people’s will.
“We are starting a democracy watch today because it is evident that the YSK commits clear lawlessness and undermines the people’s will. We invite all Ankara residents to join us in a democracy vigil and urge citizens nationwide to hold justice vigils outside their local YSK buildings. We will protect our votes and will not be victims of such unlawfulness again,” stated Eroğlu.
Riot police were deployed in response to the sit-in protest upon the request of the police officers stationed outside the YSK building. During the vigil, law enforcement authorities detained 10 individuals who were subsequently released after providing their statements.
