The internationalist movement Progressive International defined Friday’s Paris shooting as “another escalation in a campaign of physical and psychological war on Kurdish dissent” in a statement on Sunday.
“Our hearts are with the Kurdish people following the assassination of three Kurdish patriots in Paris,” said the Cabinet of Progressive International in a statement, recalling “the massacre of three Kurdish female activists at the gunpoint of a Turkish intelligence henchman one decade ago — on almost the same day and in almost the same place.”
The left-wing organisation stated that the attack came at a time when Turkey was continuing to conduct military operations against Syrian Kurds, and called for a comprehensive investigation into Friday’s attack.
“We demand a thorough investigation in order (i) to resolve the purpose of and the network behind the killing of these three Kurdish refugees, (ii) to bring all those responsible for these heinous crimes to justice, and (iii) to trace the roots of these assassinations to the unresolved murders of Sakine Cansız and her comrades a decade ago,” it said, referring to a founder member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) assassinated in Paris in 2013.
The organisation expressed its condolences to those who lost their lives in the Paris attack and concluded its statement with the Kurdish slogan “Jin Jiyan Azadi”, which is also used in protests in İran, and means “Life, Woman, Freedom” in English.
