The headquarters of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party in Ankara’s Balgat district was attacked overnight on 25 October. The attackers reportedly damaged doors and windows and attempted to remove the party’s sign.
DEM Party Spokeswoman Ayşegül Doğan condemned the incident, sharing photos of the damage and describing the attack as a “provocation” aimed at intimidating the party. “Our headquarters in Balgat, one of Ankara’s busiest districts and home to the headquarters of numerous political parties, was attacked at midnight,” Doğan said. “As shown in the photos, doors and windows have been smashed, and our sign was partially removed. We remind those behind this pitiful mentality of provocation that they cannot intimidate or stop us.”
Doğan called on Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya to take immediate action to prevent future incidents and identify those responsible. Following the incident, one suspect, identified as H.C.Ö., has been taken into custody as investigations continue.
