The Kurdish National Congress (KNC), an umbrella organisation of multiple Kurdish parties and organisations, have visited representatives of several parties and organisations in Iraqi Kurdistan regarding the ongoing Turkish military campaign in Zap, Metina and Avashin regions.
KNK co-chair Zeynep Murad held meetings with the Women’s Peace Group and Kurdish politician Gülistan Seid.
Seid stated that several Kurdish politicians from the Gorran Movement are to submit a petition to the Kurdistan regional parliament demanding the parliament take a stance against Turkey’s campaign within its borders.
“These attacks and this occupation by Turkey cannot be legitimised!” she said.
KNK co-chair Murad later on met with the Assyrian politicians from the Bet-Nahrain Democratic Party. Talking to the press at this meeting, Murad said, “Such attacks can only be stopped with strong unity of the parties in South Kurdistan.
Romio Hakari of the Bet-Nahrain DP, drew attention to the consequences of the ongoing operations in the region and said that “hundreds of villages” have been “evacuated” since Turkey launched their military campaign.
Kurdish theatre-player Helwest Nerîman shared his criticism of the parties and media outlets in Iraqi Kurdistan in an interview with Roj News.
“We are reading about the Turkey’s occupation in Metina, Zap and Avashin not from the media of the South [Kurdistan], but from the international media. Media has been defined as the fourth power in the world, but unfortunatelly, not in Kurdistan. Kurdish media has to be more sensitive,” he said.
