The first day of the Kobane case trial started with discernably high tensions in Ankara and also in Istanbul, where a number of HDP protesters were physically attacked. Several HDP protesters were detained by the police over a press statement they were releasing, Yeni Yaşam reports.
The members and activists of the HDP came together in front of the party’s Istanbul Bureau, but the police blockaded the protesters and the party building.
The police then reportedly physically attacked the HDP members, who wanted to read out their press statement regarding the Kobani case.
Several people were detained by the police – according to Yeni Yaşam – including the journalists covering the press statement. Mesopotamia Agency reporter Enes Sezgin and Artı TV reporters were amongst those detained.
