The executive committee of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Sunday urged people to unite and fight for freedom, in a statement released for 1 May, International Labour Day.
The statement read, “the struggle for a free Kurdistan and democratic Turkey must continue,” and “this year’s 1 May celebrations should mark a new beginning in the fight for freedom.”
The PKK’s executive committee urged people to take to the streets and squares on 1 May and also to vote in Turkey’s 14 May elections for a free, just and democratic life.
Turkey’s Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Unions (DISK) called for rallies to be organised in 24 provinces on 1 May, including İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir, as well as the Kurdish-majority province of Diyarbakır (Amed) and earthquake-stricken southern province of Hatay.
