The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Executive Committee issued a statement regarding the situation in Iraqi Kurdistan, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) ruling alliance in Turkey, Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP’s) relationship with the Turkish state.
The PKK Executive Committee called on all Kurdish people, especially youth and women, to “turn everywhere into an area of struggle for freedom”. Emphasizing that it has been going through a historical process, the PKK drew attention to the resistance that has been developed by the Kurdish people and democratic organizations against the İmralı isolation system in Turkey.
The İmralı torture and isolation system cannot continue, it noted, making reference to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture’s (CPT’s) report and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) report. They have asserted that this torture and isolation system must end. The PKK Executive Committee also called on all libertarian-democratic forces to develop the freedom struggle for leader Abdullah Öcalan “in every field”.
The Executive Committee also stated that it is the AKP-MHP alliance that feeds and directs the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Al-Qaeda, and this alliance aims to create a fascist-genocidal ‘gang space’ in the middle of Kurdistan. “This relationship”, it further noted, “masks the invading and genocidal face of the Turkish Republic, as well as the face that threatens all humanity with fascist terror. The economic, political and military relations that the current KDP administration has entered into are also problematic and harmful for everyone as well as for the Kurds”.
Noting that the PKK’s calls to end such a relationship and restore relations on the basis of the Kurdish national-democratic presence were “viewed negatively by the current KDP administration”, the Executive Committee voiced its concern that “the relationship in question continues to be deepened even more. This situation has turned into a provocation that serves the enemies of Kurdish people and democracy”.
It asserted that ”the reaction of the Kurdish people and democratic public opinion, especially the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), national-democratic Kurdish parties and organizations is important and it is taken into consideration and respected by the movement. On this basis, the PKK always stands behind its promise that it will play its own part. Our party calls on all consistent Kurdish patriots to unite along a national-democratic line, to develop this attitude and struggle for it”.
