As Turkey has been continuing military operations against the Kurdistan Worker’s Party( PKK) in Iraqi Kurdistan, various groups are criticising the position of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). The Peace mothers are among them. They have called on the KDP for unity amongst Kurds and to stop being allies of Turkey.
“We mothers are standing on our feet, our hearts are burning. Our rights should not be left to them.We want a unity.” says mother Vesile Bayar. She also noted that Turkey is trying to start a civil war between the Kurds.
Peace mother Nuran Seçkin stated that fratricide has done a lot of harm to Kurds.
“Enough is enough, no to fratricidal war, let the massacre come to an end. Unless our unity is ensured, people will continue to be oppressed. Why is our language banned while the Turkish language is not banned?” she stated and continued:
“The KDP itself should have stood in the way of the Turkish state and stated that it would not commit a massacre of brothers. It should have said let’s make peace together.”
Medine Yavuz on the other hand stated that they as mothers want peace and freedom.” If there is no betrayal among Kurds, we would not suffer this much,” she said
