During the early hours of this morning, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Izmir provincial building in the central district of Konak was attacked by an armed assailant, one young woman who has been named as Deniz Poyraz has died.
After the incident various parties and groups have started debating about a possible provocation against the HDP and Kurdish people within Turkey.
The main opposition party in Turkey, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu condemned the attack on the HDP İzmir provincial building by his social media account. Kılıçdaroğlu expressed his condolences to the family of Deniz Poyraz, who was killed in the attack, and said, “Let’s see what the video of these events will show in the future.” [referring to Sedat Peker’s confessions of state provocations]
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s statement on his Twitter account is as follows:
HDP İzmir il binasına yapılan saldırıyı lanetliyorum. Hayatını kaybeden Deniz Poyraz’a Allah'tan rahmet, ailesine başsağlığı diliyorum. Bu senaryoyu daha önce yaşadık, bu kez halkımız yutmaz. Uyarıyorum, kimse bu provokasyonlardan medet ummasın!

“I condemn the attack on the HDP İzmir provincial building. May God have mercy on Deniz Poyraz, who lost her life, I express my condolences to her family. We have experienced this scenario before, this time our people will not buy it. I warn, no one should hope for these provocations! Let’s see what the video these events will show in the future. We will see together. I convey my best wishes to the HDP community”
Making evaluations about the attack on ARTI TV, CHP MPs Ali Şeker and Ali Mahir Basarir underlined that it was an attack on democratic politics. While Şeker urged the Turkish Ministry of Interior Suleyman Soylu to do his own task, Basarir said, “As a deputy, I am really worried. If you don’t think the same as them, they will attack and kill. The main responsible for this is the language used by the rulers of this country. It is the accusations he makes that are discriminatery and targeted,” he said.
CHP deputy Ali Şeker made the following comments:
“It is an indication that these provocation policies will continue in terms of maintaining their power. This is an attack on democratic politics. Those who are responsible to make Turkey a safe country, are instead pursuing provocations. ”
Şeker continued: “To get out of this messy situation they are in (referring to the government), they are redirecting to another area. They are changing the agenda. Unfortunately, they have started provocations to prevent the deterioration and the situation they have fallen into, and they continue. It is our responsibility to stop it. Once again, we call on the interior minister to do his work, not to provoke!”
