Turkish-backed militias bombed the village of al-Daraj (El Derc) in the north of the Manbij (Minbic) canton in northern Syria on the night of 28 June. Îbrahîm Derc Semo (45) was killed, and Xalid Kamil El Hîlal (26) suffered a head injury in this attack.
Another villager, Yehya Îbrahîm Elî (24), was attacked by a Turkish suicide drone while watering his field between Bagdik (Bexdik) and Kobelak (Kulpek) villages, two days later, on 30 June. He was taken to Kobani (Kobanê) hospital for treatment for his wounds. On the same day, the village of Umm al-Kif (Um El Kêf) west of Tal Tamr (Til Temir) was shelled with howitzers by Turkish forces and their proxies, according to reports by Hawar News.
These attacks are part of a continuing series of assaults by the Turkish state and its affiliated islamist militias against North and East Syria, targeting civilian infrastructure such as healthcare and energy facilities and claiming the lives of civilians. The de facto Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) is preparing for the coming local elections, and the current attacks are seen as attempts by Turkey to destabilise the region and prevent the elections from taking place.
