According to Mesopotamia Agency, three Kurdish political refugees, including journalist Nuri Akman, have asked for asylum at Bucharest Airport in Romania, where they are awaiting a decision as to whether they will be deported or not.
An arrest warrant had been issued against Nuri Akman
A lawsuit was filed against journalist Nuri Akman with the allegation of “being a member of the terrorist organization” on the grounds of news reports he made in Kobani, photographs he took and his social media posts. At his trial, he was sentenced to six years and three months in prison. This decision was dismissed by the Court of Appeal. In the third hearing of the case, which was reopened, an arrest warrant was issued against him and his defence statement was not taken. Akman went to Greece in January 2019 and has requested political asylum.
