Veger camp is just one of these camps in North and East Syria, which has been a home for Syrian Kurds displaced from Afrin.
After the military take-over of Afrin by Turkey and its mercenaries in Syria in 2018, thousands of people had to leave their homes and almost 200 families are now living in Veger Camp, according to ANHA.
“We made desserts to make the children happy during the Bayram. This is how we used to greet our Bayrams in Afrin,” said Esmet Bakir who previously lived in the Jindires (Cindirese) district of Afrin. He fondly remembers his life in his hometown but has not given up believing he will return there one day.
“We might have to leave our lands but we will celebrate Eid Mubarek in our home one day,” he said.
Emine Memo is another refugee in the camp. She misses the days they celebrated the holiday with their neighbours in Afrin. “We miss the days that we could celebrate freely in our lands, not in camps, but those days will come again,” she said..
