Turkish police detained nine Kurdish women on Thursday, including the spokeswoman of the Green Left Party, Gönül Uzunay, in house raids, reported Mezopotamya News Agency.
Police raided the women’s houses in the morning for allegedly “making propaganda for a terrorist organisation” in Turkey’s Van province.
The nine women detained during the raids were the Green Left Party’s Gönül Uzunay, Hanım Kaya, Co-Chair of the MEBYA-DER , Xecê Baristan, a Peace Mother, Gülşen Kurt, Co-Chair of the Serhat Migration Monitoring Association (GOCDER), Caziye Duman, Co-Mayor of the Saray Municipality, Özlem Tuci, member of the İpekyolu Municipality Council, Zeynep Kaya and Söngül Işık, members of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA).
As part of the investigation, the Van Anti-terrorism Branch imposed 24-hour “lawyer visitation restrictions” on the detainees.
