New footage revealed in Şenyaşar murder case in Turkey: Attacker with kalashnikov not in file

New footage has emerged of the attack in which three members of the Şenyaşar family were murdered by relatives of an AKP MP. It has been revealed that a man who attacked the Şenyaşars' workplace with a Kalashnikov has not been included in the case file.

New footage has emerged of relatives and bodyguards of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP for Urfa Ibrahim Halil Yildiz attacking the Şenyaşar family’s shop at the Bir Milyoncular shopping centre in the Suruc (Pirsus) district of Urfa (Riha) in 2018.

Two separate pieces of surveillance footage obtained by the Mesopotamia News Agency show an assailant armed with a Kalashnikov who has not been included in the trial documentation.

Security camera footage from premises neighbouring on the Şenyaşars’ shop shows that the attack started at 3:55 p.m. The father of the family Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar, arriving at the scene at 16.17, is prevented from entering his workplace by plainclothed police.

The footage later shows the father being moved away from the ambulance carrying his son, while a man carrying an AK-47 rifle moving in his direction is blocked by the police chief. But the name of that attacker is not included in the file.

It is alleged that the man, whose gun was taken from him by police, but whose name is not included in the file, was a relative of the Yıldız family and a village guard (state-sponsored paramilitary).

Emine Şenyaşar’s husband, Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar, and two of their sons, Adil and Celal, died in the armed attack by the bodyguards and relatives of İbrahim Halil Yıldız, during Yıldız’s election campaign in 2018. Emine Şenyaşar and her other son Ferit have been holding a sit-in outside the courthouse in Urfa for 192 days demanding justice for their family.

The prosecution drew up an indictment 18 months after the incident, but the indictment did not address developments at the hospital where the main attack on the Şenyaşar family took place. There is no reference included in the indictment as to what happened to Hacı Esvet Senyaşar, who entered the hospital alive and healthy but who came out dead with his head bashed in. Although three years and three months have passed since the incident, neither the lawyers nor the family have been informed about what happened in the hospital, because a secrecy order has been placed on the file.
