In a new ground-and-air offensive, Turkish armed forces continue to target the Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq.
The Turkish defence ministry said on Sunday 25 April that commando forces landed in Iraq’s Metina region while fighter jets dropped bombs on Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) targets.
Speaking on the ongoing Turkish raids in northern Iraq, Karasu said, “Attacks on the Metina, Zap and Avaşin zones are a part of the annihilation plans, a part of the genocide attack, which has been in effect since 2014.”
He added: “The enemy wants to complete the Kurdish genocide by breaking the will of the Kurdish people and pacifying the guerrilla forces.”
Addressing the Treaty of Lausanne, Karasu shared his view that the ongoing military campaign in Iraq is a part of the treaty. “Something to be noticed is that the Turkish government tries to fix the relations with Europe and with the USA. They have some issues that they now want to solve, but on what grounds? On the grounds of Kurdish genocide,” he said.
Karasu also shared his views on the recent Biden-Erdoğan talks. US President Joe Biden had a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, 23 April, before officially recognising the atrocities committed against the Armenian people by the Ottoman Empire in 1915 as “genocide” in his statement the next day.
“Erdoğan and Biden talked on one day, attacks began on the other day. The fact that these attacks gained momentum and were launched on the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is noteworthy,” he said.
He went on: “They say ‘In 1915 we have committed genocide against Armenians, now it is your turn sp we will commit genocide against the Kurds.’ This is their message.”
The KCK Executive pointed out the role of the international powers in Turkey’s oppression of the Kurds. “The USA and Europe are partners in this genocide. They try to overcome matters of dispute by giving support to the Kurdish genocide,” he said.
He added: “They solve their problems with Turkey by giving support to the Turkish state’s Kurdish genocide policy. That is, based on their selfish interests, they turn a blind eye to the Kurdish genocide. Recently the USA has renewed a warrant concerning three of our friends.
“The rulers who claim to be the representatives of the people of Europe and the people of the USA give support to the AKP-MHP government, which they know to be fascist, to be an enemy of democracy and of the Kurds.”
