Mustafa Karasu on Biden-Erdoğan meeting: ‘If Biden defines himself as a democrat he should not be a partner to Kurdish genocide’

Mustafa Karasu, Executive Council member of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) spoke in a special program broadcast on Medya Haber TV regarding the recent political developments and agenda of Turkey.

Karasu shared his views on the Biden-Erdoğan meeting, planned to take place on June 14 on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels.

The United States President Joe Biden and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will meet next week to discuss an expansive agenda including Syria, Afghanistan and other regional issues.

Karasu said Biden had democratic claims, but he did not act on his promises after he was elected. “He was claiming that he would bring democratic values to the USA. The USA and Europe has to be sincere. If there is a fascist regime in Turkey, if there is the dictatorship as they say then they should not be giving support to that. They should not be a partner to the Kurdish genocide,” he said.

“If Biden defines himself as a democrat,” Karasu added, “he should not be a partner to the Kurdish genocide.”

“We appeal one more time. We urge both Biden and the European states not to give support to the policies of the AKP-MHP [Turkey’s ruling allies Justice and Development Party and Nationalist Movement Party] policies. We do not believe that neither the people of the US nor the people of Europe defend the policies of their leaders.”

Karasu pointed out the relations of the USA, Turkey and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) ruled by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

“European states and the US cannot hide their partnership in the Kurdish genocide simply by having relations with the KDP,” he said.

Stating that the US actively supports Turkey’s “occupation and genocide attacks” still ongoing in Metina, Zap and Avashin regions in northern Iraq, Karasu also stated that KDP is actively “cooperating with Turkey” on these attacks.

He also shared his opinions regarding the ongoing tension in northern Iraq between the KDP and the PKK forces and called on the KDP forces to support the “national benefit of all Kurds and not to be a partner of Turkey.”

Karasu stated KDP’s current attitude is not limited to just “here and today”, but is part of a rather greater plan he defines as a “concept”.

Karasu noted that to understand such a concept of cooperation in Turkey’s attacks, all Kurds and the international public opinion should revisit and learn of the “history of KDP’s previous acts”. and reminded the Zini Werte conflict when Masrour Barzani, the prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), dispatched peshmerga troops to Zini Werte in the west of Mount Qandil, which is home to the headquarters of the PKK and around 60 kilometres northeast of Erbil (Hewler).

The strategic region became a centre of tensions between KDP and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), with the PKK also involving itself in the dispute.

He underlined that both Zini Werte and what happens, today, in Metina was a continuum of the plans to “annihilate the Kurdish freedom movement, but the PKK got stronger and got bigger despite all such attacks. That is why they activate the annihilation attacks again, but the guerilla puts forward a historical resistance in Metina, Zap and Avashin, just like the historical resistances in Heftanin and Gare,” he said.

He continued: “Their purpose in 1999 [when Abdullan Öcalan was arrested] was to annihilate the PKK by jailing leader Apo. That is the policy, to annihilate the PKK, that is now being attempted in Medya Defence Zones.

“This is a concept. This is an attack that has been jointly planned by Turkey and the KDP. The KDP surrounding Metina and entering the PKK zones to disrupt the connection between the guerilla zones is part of this plan.

“One can explain this plan in this way that: The KDP will hit with the anvil first, then Turkey will hit with the hammer.”

Karasu also saluted the jailed leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Abdullah Öcalan and he called on all international democratic forces and especially on Kurdish people to unite their freedom struggle with the struggle to free Öcalan.

“It is important to unite the freedom struggle of the Kurdish people with the struggle to free and embrace leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan],” he said.

“Without growing the freedom struggle of the Kurdish people, without effectively struggling against the genocidal attack of the Turkish state,” he noted, “One cannot pursue the right struggle against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan.”
