Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Member Mustafa Karasu has made a statement on the agenda of Turkey and the Middle East.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Iraqi government formed an agreement on the Sinjar region of Iraq on 9 October. The aim of the agreement has recently been a matter of debate.
Following the agreement, the Sinjar Democratic Autonomous Assembly reacted (MXŞD) and said they would not accept it. Karasu stated that such an agreement could not be signed without the will of the Yazidi people who lived in Sinjar and criticised the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
He stated that Sinjar should protect its autonomy and everyone should recognise its autonomy.
Campaign
The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) made a statement and declared that it will launch a campaign called “End Isolation, Fascism, Invasion: It is time to ensure freedom” on 12 September,
Karasu said it should be considered as a campaign not only against Turkey, but also against wider Middle Eastern forces. He added that all Kurdish people should fight back as political forces everywhere were looking for new balances of power under war conditions.
Suppression of HDP
A detention operation was launched against the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Turkey on 27 September and several HDP politicians were detained or arrested. Karasu defined the aim of ongoing suppressions as an effort by the Turkish government to weaken and disperse the HDP. He also said that democratic forces should come together and unite in Turkey.
Isolation of Öcalan
The isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, who has been imprisoned in İmrali High-Security F-type prison in turkey for 22 years, deepens in Turkey.
Karasu drew attention to the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) report regarding the isolation imposed on Öcalan and said that the CPT confirmed the torture system in İmralı prison. He also added that this system must be removed.
