Mustafa Karasu, Executive Council Member of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), shared his thoughts on the international silence regarding the anti-democratic practices of the Turkish government on Medya Haber TV.
“I think they act simply in their own benefits. Benefits in a wider pespective. They give support to the AKP government, for their economic benefits, political benefits, said Karasu commenting on Europe’s perspective on dealing with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Turkey.
Noting the previous tension between Turkey, the US and the EU, Karasu said, “The AKP government has really pushed the US and the EU in the previous period. Why? Because they did not fully support the AKP government. The AKP-MHP government is such an openly fascist government. So full support to such an openly fascist government, would expose themselves as well. There have been many problems in this regard.”
‘The mask of the EU has fallen’
Karasu also shared his criticism regarding the human rights discourse of the EU. “Neither human rights, nor democracy. Europe has thrown them all into the sea. They are lying to the whole world with the discourse of human rights and democracy. There is no such thing. In the entity of the AKP, the mask of the US, the mask of the EU has fallen,” he said.
The KCK Executive also underlined the hypocracy of talking about democracy and giving support to the Turkish regime at the same time. “Can you talk about human rights and democracy and support a fascist regime at the same time? Is not the MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) a certified fascist organisation? Are not all the speeches of Erdoğan openly fascist speeches?” Karasu asked and added, “All the speeches of Erdoğan feed DAESH”
To give support to such a regime, which Karasu defined as the enemy of the peoples of Turkey and as a regime which applies genocidal politics against the Kurds “and to give them support at their most oppressive and most fascistic period of their rule is the most solid expression of the lack of morality, the lack of principles, the lack of backbone,” he said.
‘The biggest support of Turkey is Germany’
Karasu also shared his view on Germany’s approach towards the Turkish government.
“The German government takes part in the Kurdish genocide now, just as they took part in the Armenian genocide in 1913. The biggest supporter of Turkey on applying genocide politics against Kurds on such massive level is Germany,” Karasu said.
“Yes, Europe also supports that, yes, the US also supports that. But Germany is most responsible, the number one. Germany protects (Turkey),” Karasu further noted and reminded about the attitude of Germany in the EU Summit on 25-26 March, “There would be sanctions, but Germany prevented this. It is not the so-called impact of the USA or something. It was the Germany who prevented this.”
‘Is France the playground for Turkish intelligence?’
The KCK Executive finally shared his comments on the latest police operations in France targeting Kurdish activists.
“They had a meeting with Erdoğan. Then Kurds were detained. They raided associations afterwards as well. Is France now the playground of Turkish intelligence? Three revolutionary women were massacred there on 9 January. Comrade Sakine and other comrades… Now they raid the Kurdish associations,” he said reminding recalling murder of three Kurdish political women, Fidan Doğan, Sakine Cansiz and Leyla Şaylemez in Paris in 2013.
Asking “What was DAESH doing in France?,” Karasu added, “Did not they commit massacres every day? DAESH which grew bigger under the protection of Turkey did this in Europe, did this in France. What did Kurds do? Kurds fought against DAESH. Did not they welcome the YPJ fighters in the Élysée Palace?”
Karasu called on the French authorities: “Mr. Macron, dear French authorities, do you see Kurds as people, whom to be applauded only when they are actively fighting against DAESH? The policies of France (against Kurds) is dirty, is ugly. They need to revise this policy.”
