Filiz Aydin, the mother of the Kurdish musician Mîr Perwer (Mehmet Şirin Aydın) who was murdered in Paris on 23 December, died in hospital on Tuesday, reported Mezopotamya News Agency.
Perwer’s mother had been paralysed and bedridden as a result of a traffic accident she had years ago and had been receiving treatment for an infection for some time.
Filiz was taken to the intensive care unit of Elazığ State Hospital shortly after her son’s funeral and later passed away on Tuesday evening.
Mîr Perwer was murdered on December 23, 2022, along with Evîn Goyî (Emine Kara) and Abdurrahman Kızıl at the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Centre in Paris. The musician was a native of the northern Kurdish province of Muş (Mûş) and had been seeking asylum in France.
Perwer had to leave Turkey due to political persecution by the Turkish state as he was an active member of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and had been sentenced to prison by the Turkish judiciary on “terror charges.”
During his funeral on 5 January in his home village, Turkish police did not allow the family to pick up the young Kurdish musician’s body from the Muş airport in eastern Turkey, instead moving the casket themselves via a lesser used route. Turkish security forces detained more than 30 people who attended the funeral.
Filiz Aydın’s body will be buried next to her son’s grave in Muş, relatives said.
