A member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Leyla Halid, sent a message expressing her concern over the high risk to the life of ill prisoner Aysel Tuğluk.
Kurdish politician Aysel Tuğluk who was diagnosed with dementia is still being held in the Kocaeli Kandıra Prison despite the medical report of the Kocaeli University that she “cannot stay in prison”.
Thousands of women from various countries signed an appeal for Aysel Tuğluk and called for her immediate release from prison.
“1000 Women for Aysel Tuğluk” shared Leyla Halid’s message on rising concern over the seriously ill prisoner Aysel Tuğluk. In her message, Halid called on Turkish authorities to take immediate action according to the law, justice, and human rights before Tuğluk’s health condition worsened.
The message has noted: “We, Palestinian women sending our love and solidarity. We hope that you and all political prisoners will be freed from prisons in Turkey as soon as possible. Keep your spirits up. You will be free.”
Aysel Tuğluk was arrested along with seven other politicians on 29 December 2016, when she was deputy co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP). She has been in Kocaeli Type F Prison for nearly five years, having been sentenced to ten years on a charge of being a “leader of an -illegal- organisation” in 2018.
