The Syrian Democratic Forces said they have begun a large-scale operation against ISIS following the group’s increasing activity in SDF-controlled areas since the beginning of December.
The Turkish Constitutional Court on Thursday unanimously rejected the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s application to adjourn the closure case until after the elections. The court also rejected the party’s request for an extension of two months and decided to give the party an additional period of 15 days for its defence against the recent ruling to block the party’s Treasury accounts as part of the ongoing closure case.
US officials were convinced that the Turkish army had “no capacity” to defeat ISIS on their own without intense support from the United States, Mike Pompeo recalls in his newly released memoir.
Amnesty International has called on the Syrian government to end the ongoing siege in Aleppo, in SDF controlled areas, to prevent shortages of necessary supplies in the region.
The Turkish parliament’s constitutional committee approved an amendment on the right to wear a headscarf and the protection of family by the majority votes of ruling bloc MPs. Women’s organisations have spoken out against the amendment.
