The Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, has been forced to speak out for the first time on Turkey’s ongoing military offensive in regions nominally under his control. While he played down the KRG’s role in the offensive, Turkish President Reccep Tayyip Erdoğan has made mention of ‘close cooperation’ between Turkey and the KRG.
Meanwhile, condemnation of the operation continued in Europe, where members of political parties spoke out against the operation, as well as on the streets of Turkey, where local residents challenged President Erdoğan’s government over their actions in the face of ongoing repression of political dissent. German journalist Elke Dangeleit has also written to spotlight Turkey’s assaults against Kurdish regions of both Iraq and Syria.
