Turkey’s military operations in the Kurdish regions of northern Iraq has continued to meet with mounting criticism. In the UK, protesters targeted Iraqi Kurdish Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for his perceived role in facilitating the invasion, while a letter-writing campaign is also underway encouraging Kurds and their supporters in the country to contact lawmakers over the operation.
The Arab League has also joined the federal Iraqi authorities in condemning an invasion which they said would increase tensions between Ankara and Baghdad. Meanwhile, an analyst has argued that the invasion is serving to destabilise the whole region by drawing other actors such as Barzani’s Kurdistan Democratic Party into the conflict.
