Key regional actors have spoken out to condemn Turkey’s ongoing invasion of Iraqi Kurdistan, as the military incursion into the Zap, Matina and Avashin regions continues unabated. The Iraqi Presidency and Turkey’s pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party have both criticised the operation known as ‘Claw Lock’, which is widely seen as being in defiance of international law.
At the same time, the ruling authorities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the major Turkish opposition party were condemned for their failure to speak out on the assault.
Elsewhere in the region, tensions continued to rise, with clashes breaking out between Yazidi units and the federal Iraqi Army in the Yazidi homeland of Sinjar, in incidents which some observers linked to Turkey’s actions in northern Iraq.
