Iranian security forces on Saturday opened fire killing a mourner at a 40th day ceremony held after the death of seven anti-government protesters in Iran’s Kurdish-populated city of Javanrud.
Turkey and Syria could cooperate on the ground in the future if they solve problems concerning security and defence, said Turkish Defence Minister, Hulusi Akar, after returning from meeting his Syrian counterpart in Moscow.
A tripartite meeting between the foreign ministers of Turkey, Syria and Russia could be held in the second half of January, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced on Saturday.
The mayor of Paris visited the Kurdish community on Saturday to pay tribute to the three Kurdish activists who lost their lives in the armed attack on the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Centre in Paris on the 23 December, and pledged to support Kurds in their fight for truth and justice.
Upcoming Turkish elections could be held on 14 May. The ruling Justice and Development Party’s parliamentary group chair Özlem Zengin commented on possible election dates following a meeting last week between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his far-right ally Devlet Bahçeli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party.
