Headlines today are dominated by Turkey’s latest invasion of Iraqi Kurdistan, with airstrikes and shelling striking Kurdish regions in the north of the country alongside ground assaults backed by attack helicopters.
The international press has remained largely quiet in the face of the invasion, despite the fact that previous assaults on the region have resulted in civilian deaths, the use of banned chemical weapons, and other actions potentially amounting to war crimes.
Nonetheless, Kurds and their supporters took to the streets across Europe to protest and condemn the assault, with NGOs and Kurdish political organisations also speaking up against the operation.
