Turkey has come out in opposition to Sweden and Finland joining NATO, in a move which is likely to re-ignite the debate over Turkey’s suitability as a member of the security alliance. In a court case in Belgium against members of an alleged Turkish assassination squad, one of the plaintiffs cited Turkey’s role in the Ukrainian war as a reason for the case collapsing, with no further action to be taken.
In Turkey itself, a crowd gathered for the funeral of a Kurdish politician was attacked with tear gas and beaten, in scenes which recalled the Israeli police’s attack on the funeral cortege of a Palestinian journalist murdered earlier this week.
