Turkish President Erdoğan and his ruling AKP have sought alliances with Hüda-Par and the New Welfare Party (YRP) in recent days, ahead of the elections expected to take place on 14 May.
Many European parties, organisations and politicians from more than 20 countries released statements of solidarity with Turkey’s Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), which faces the risk of being shut down ahead of 14 May elections.
The United Nations has criticised the slow aid response to survivors of the 6 February earthquake in Turkey and Syria and has called for greater assistance for survivors.
Kurdish lawmaker Semra Güzel, who already faces a 15-year prison sentence for being a member of a terrorist organisation, faces an additional sentence of between three years to seven years six months for forging official documents.
Turkish President Erdoğan is reportedly considering both Hakan Fidan, the head of the Turkish Intelligence Agency (MİT), and İbrahim Kalın, the presidential spokesman, as candidates for vice president in a potential new cabinet.
