The United States has called on the United Nations Security Council to immediately authorise the delivery of humanitarian aid to areas of rebel-held northwest Syria severely destroyed in twin earthquakes on 6 February.
ISIS appears to be taking the opportunity to increase attacks in Syria, as locals and members of the international community in northern parts of the country try to cope with the massive destruction caused by the major earthquakes.
The United Nation’s Population Fund highlighted the lack of access to maternal health support in areas affected by the disaster. More than 215,000 pregnant women have been affected by the 6 February earthquakes.
Residents of a village in Turkey’s southeastern province of Gaziantep say they received no state support for six days after the earthquakes, and the Peoples’ Democratic Party provided them vital supplies.
