The situation in Kurdish-majority districts of Syria’s Aleppo continues to deteriorate, with locals launching protests over the weekend as the government of Bashar al-Assad continues to prevent flour and other basic supplies from entering the isolated neighbourhoods.
Efforts to repress the Kurdish political movement are also ongoing in other regions of Kurdistan, with Turkey’s own Constitutional Court highlighting the violation of Kurdish political prisoner Leyla Güven’s rights. Another political prisoner has been denied access to basic religious rites following their death in suspicious circumstances.
Against the background of this ongoing repression of the Kurdish movement, a Kurdish musician has released a new all-Kurdish album, saying he wants to encourage other Kurdish musicians to come forward and record in their own language.
