Mazlum Abdi, the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), made a statement regarding the ongoing situation in Rojava and Syria. Abdi stated that the issues of the region can be solved through dialogue and negotiation.
Abdi stated that military force cannot be a solution. He added that the Syrian regime was not ready for a solution.
According to Abdi, negotiations were halted because they insisted on the denial of the Kurdish people.
On the issue of national unity, Abdi stated that: “The national unity of Kurds in Syria is a strategic goal for us. Unless Kurds unite, we believe that they cannot shape their future”.
He asserted that Turkey was not in favour of a solution in Syria: “Because if a solution is realized, Turkey will have to get out of here”.
Regarding the US, Abdi observed that the US administration had made significant mistakes last year and they had allowed the Turkish state to attack SDF regions.
He concluded that if international forces were looking for a solution in Syria, they had to support Kurds and allow their representatives in the region to attend the Geneva meetings.
