The low occupancy rate of Istanbul’s dams, which has fallen to nearly 35 per cent as a result of a lack of rainfall, has exacerbated the drought in the region, according to the latest statistics released by the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ).
According to the statistics, the occupancy rate of ten Istanbul dams remained at their lowest levels in the last nine years.

The recent statistics by the Turkish General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) also show the current situation of rainfall and drought in the country.
2023 rainfall precipitation decreased by more than 60 per cent in the western and northern parts of Thrace, Istanbul, Çanakkale, Bursa, Yalova and Izmir, and around Isparta, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Osmaniye and Hatay, and it has decreased by more than 40 percent in the vicinity of Adıyaman.
