The incredible life story of 87-year-old Fatma Kayacı who has been living alone for 27 years on the Karakısrak Plateau in Turkey’s northern city of Trabzon located on the coast of the Black Sea was filmed as a documentary.
Directed by filmmakers Nurdan Tekeoğlu and Orhan Tekeoğlu, The short film entitled “The Unknown Story of Fatma Kayacı” that documented the extraordinary life story of the elderly Laz woman was granted the Special Jury Award at the Nuovi Mondi Film Festival held in Italy.
“Our documentary tells the story of the social exclusion and the life of solitude of the almost 90-year-old Fatma Kayacı, which began in the mid 1980s when she was held responsible of the death of her epileptic nephew, Ali Haydar, who died in a fire,” said Orhan Tekelioğlu sharing the details of Fatma Kayacı’s personal story.
Fatma Kayacı, who has been living 2,000 metres above sea level for years ‘grew a forest’ in the region she has been living and she was previously chosen as the “woman of the year” by the local municipality.
